Rangers watching as Astros are coming unglued at the best possible time, but there’s a twist

Houston Astros outfielder Daulton Varsho is being placed on the injured list because of cysts in his left wrist and is considering surgery. Varsho, who was acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays at the trade deadline in exchange for starting pitcher Spencer Arrighetti, attempted to play through the issue for three months before seeking a second opinion.

Since joining Houston, Varsho struggled offensively, posting a .172/.224/.311 slash line and -0.3 fWAR across 41 games. The trade was completed under former Astros general manager Dana Brown, whom the organization dismissed three weeks following the transaction.
