Houston Astros Suddenly Part Ways With 5-Year MLB Veteran

The Houston Astros designated right-handed pitcher Jason Alexander for assignment on Thursday to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. The decision followed the club placing outfielder Daulton Varsho on the 10-day injured list due to left wrist inflammation and selecting outfielder Jorge Barrosa from the minor leagues.

Alexander, 33, finished his major-league campaign with a 1-1 record and a 9.33 ERA across 18 1/3 innings for Houston. Having joined the organization off waivers from Oakland in May 2025, the veteran pitcher will now be placed on waivers by the Astros.
