Surprising Maple Leafs Player Clears Waivers

Veteran forward Steven Lorentz successfully cleared waivers on Friday after being sent down by the Toronto Maple Leafs. The move came following the conclusion of Toronto's preseason schedule against the Ottawa Senators as the club worked to trim its active roster. Seven other players were also placed on waivers alongside Lorentz, including Brendan Brisson, Henrik Rybinski, Marshall Rifai, Michael Pezzetta, Philippe Myers, Ryan Tverberg, and Vinni Lettieri.

Lorentz remains under contract with the Maple Leafs through the 2027-28 season, carrying an average annual value of $1.35 million. The 30-year-old forward recorded 18 points, including seven goals, in 71 games for Toronto last season. Despite being waived, Lorentz is not necessarily done with the organization, as roster movement and previous injury trends suggest he could still factor into future plans.
