Luka Doncic is taking over the primary leadership role for the Los Angeles Lakers following the departure of LeBron James ahead of the 2026-27 season. To build early team chemistry, Doncic recently hosted his teammates on a five-day retreat in his home country of Slovenia for workouts and team-bonding activities.

The Lakers reconstructed their roster around Doncic by acquiring Walker Kessler from Utah for two unprotected first-round picks and two pick swaps, alongside adding Collin Sexton and Quentin Grimes. Austin Reaves also signed a new four-year contract to solidify Los Angeles' backcourt after Doncic averaged 33.5 points, 8.3 assists, and 7.7 rebounds in 64 games last season.
