Dyche discusses ‘awful period’ and Everton unity during fights for survival

Sean Dyche spoke on The Overlap podcast about the challenges of managing Everton during their Premier League survival battles. Dyche replaced Frank Lampard as manager in January 2023 with the club in 16th place following nine defeats in 12 matches. Everton avoided relegation on the final day of the 2022-23 season courtesy of a decisive goal from Abdoulaye Doucoure against Bournemouth.

Dyche described the week leading up to that final match as the most awful and pressured period of his career. He praised Everton supporters for uniting behind the team during subsequent challenges, including a points deduction in the 2023-24 season, and noted helpful advice from former players Peter Reid and Neville Southall.
