The Story in 60 Seconds

During the Presidents Cup at Medinah, Canadian golfer Corey Conners hit a wayward approach shot from 212 yards on the second hole that headed out of bounds. As the ball flew toward the spectators, an attendee intercepted the shot on a half-volley with their foot. The kick redirected the ball back onto the putting surface, where it came to rest approximately 13 feet from the hole.

Despite the fortuitous landing spot on the green, tournament officials intervened to assess the unusual situation. PGA Tour rules official Mark Dusbabek stated that the shot was ruled out of bounds because the spectator performed a deliberate action, requiring the ball to be played from an estimated spot where it originally would have landed.
