The Washington Capitals placed Jonny Brodzinski, Spencer Smallman, Louie Belpedio, and Clay Stevenson on waivers for assignment to the AHL's Hershey Bears. Ethen Frank and Ivan Miroshnichenko avoided waivers to remain with the NHL club in D.C. as Washington nears its final opening night roster. Goaltender Cal Petersen was released from his professional tryout and will also report to Hershey.

Washington loaned 13 other players to Hershey, while Rasmus Sandin is expected to be placed on injured reserve to meet the 23-man limit before Monday's deadline. Charlie Lindgren remains the backup goaltender alongside Logan Thompson. The Capitals begin their regular season on October 2 against the Carolina Hurricanes.
