The Story in 60 Seconds

Philadelphia Flyers defenseman David Jiricek struggled during Saturday night's preseason game against the Washington Capitals, putting his opening night lineup status in question. While general manager Danny Briere confirmed that Jiricek will start the season on the 23-man NHL roster—partly because he is no longer waiver-exempt—his playing time remains unassured following a poor performance.

During Saturday's contest, Jiricek was on the ice for two goals against, committed a turnover leading directly to a Maxim Schafer goal, served a penalty during a Capitals power-play goal, and was beaten on Lynden Lakovic's late tally. Goaltender Aleksei Kolosov was subsequently assigned to the AHL on Sunday.
