Former Blue Jays Catcher Gabriel Moreno Wins NL Batting Title

Former Toronto Blue Jays catcher Gabriel Moreno has officially won the National League batting title as a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Moreno posted a .311 batting average to narrowly edge out Philadelphia Phillies infielder Luis Arraez, who finished at .310. Moreno became the first player in Diamondbacks franchise history to win the NL batting crown, finishing behind only Houston Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez across all of Major League Baseball.

Moreno was originally traded by Toronto to Arizona alongside Lourdes Gurriel Jr. ahead of the 2023 season in exchange for outfielder Daulton Varsho. During his tenure in Arizona, the 26-year-old catcher has earned a Gold Glove, helped the team reach the 2023 World Series, and produced a 6.3 bWAR season while remaining under team control for two more years.
