The Story in 60 Seconds

Manchester United have encountered a setback in their attempt to sign Brian Brobbey, as Sunderland reportedly have no plans to sanction a permanent transfer for the striker next year. United have retained interest in the 24-year-old Dutch forward since 2022 to solve ongoing attacking issues, but Sunderland intend to keep him under contract at the Stadium of Light.

Brobbey joined Sunderland in the summer of 2025, recording eight goals last season before netting a hat-trick in a 5-3 defeat against Manchester City during the 2026/27 campaign. United manager Michael Carrick has primarily deployed Matheus Cunha at striker amid Benjamin Sesko's recent injury absence and Joshua Zirkzee's limited cameo appearances.
