Despite these struggles, the franchise has undergone significant leadership changes, now led by president of baseball operations Paul Toboni and manager Blake Butera. Toboni stated that the club remains open-minded about bolstering the roster through promotions, internal player development, or external free-agent signings.

The Nationals have approximately $50 million coming off their payroll heading into the offseason, with shortstop CJ Abrams remaining among their primary arbitration considerations. However, potential spending may be delayed by expected labor unrest when the collective bargaining agreement expires in December, which is anticipated to cause an owner lockout and freeze all player negotiations.
