Farbrace proud as Sussex finish third amid struggles

Outgoing Sussex head coach Paul Farbrace expressed pride after his team finished third in the County Championship despite major financial difficulties. The club faced a 12-point deduction before the 2026 campaign after recording £1.3m in losses in 2025. Sussex won seven of their 14 matches, accumulating 207 points on the field but finishing with 195 points following the penalty.

Farbrace is stepping down after four seasons to transition into a part-time director of cricket role, with Matthew Walker set to replace him as head coach in 2027. Amid financial constraints and a player salary cap, several players are departing Hove, including Henry Crocombe, Tom Alsop, George Thomas, and Fynn Hudson-Prentice.
