Cubs announce Matthew Boyd as Game 1 starter vs. Padres

Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell announced on Monday that left-hander Matthew Boyd will start Game 1 of the wild-card series against the San Diego Padres at Petco Park. This decision marks the second consecutive season that Boyd will take the mound for Game 1 against San Diego in the postseason.

During the regular season, Boyd struggled against the Padres, recording an 8.00 ERA over two starts spanning nine innings. In last year's playoff encounter between the teams, he pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing one run on four hits with two strikeouts.
