Columbus Blue Jackets Trade Kirill Marchenko Maple Leafs in a Blockbuster

The Columbus Blue Jackets and Toronto Maple Leafs have completed a major multi-player trade. Columbus has traded forwards Kirill Marchenko and Miles Wood, along with goaltender Elvis Merzlikins, to Toronto. In return, the Maple Leafs have sent forwards Matthew Knies and Steven Lorentz, defenseman Emil Andrae, and a second-round draft pick to the Blue Jackets.

The trade materialized after Marchenko indicated via his agent earlier in the summer that he would not sign a contract extension with Columbus. Blue Jackets general manager Don Waddell focused on acquiring an immediate impact player rather than only future assets, securing the 23-year-old Knies in the permanent deal.
