Todd Monken entered the season with plenty of questions surrounding his decision to make Deshaun Watson Cleveland’s starting quarterback. Many Browns fans wanted a different direction, but Monken refused to abandon Watson before giving him a genuine opportunity.
Former NFL head coach Rex Ryan praised Cleveland Browns coach Todd Monken on ESPN's Get Up for maintaining confidence in quarterback Deshaun Watson despite external criticism. Monken chose to keep Watson as the starter entering the season, a decision that is showing positive results following consecutive victories for the team.
After opening the season with a 34-10 loss to Jacksonville, Watson rebounded with multi-touchdown performances against Tampa Bay and Carolina, including a 21-18 win over the Panthers. Through three games, Watson has compiled 587 passing yards, five touchdowns, and one interception.
