Johan Manzambi tipped for next step after two Aston Villa seasons

Former Freiburg youth coach Bernhard Weis told the BBC that joining Aston Villa was the right career move for 20-year-old Switzerland international Johan Manzambi. Manzambi completed a permanent transfer to Villa from SC Freiburg over the summer, signing a five-year contract for a reported £59.5 million fee. Weis suggested that Manzambi will likely spend two seasons at Villa Park before advancing to the next level.

Manzambi briefly became Villa's record signing under manager Unai Emery before Nicolas Jackson signed for £65 million. The Swiss forward scored on his full debut against Tottenham after returning from a knee injury suffered during a three-goal World Cup campaign. Manzambi has also been shortlisted alongside Barcelona's Lamine Yamal for the Ballon d'Or young talent award.
