The Columbus Blue Jackets traded forward Kirill Marchenko to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for winger Matthew Knies on Monday evening. The trade package sent to Columbus also includes forward Steven Lorentz, defenseman Emil Andrae, and a 2027 second-round draft pick.
Columbus executive Don Waddell pursued the deal to secure players with term and add physical size under head coach Rick Bowness. The 23-year-old Knies holds a $7.75 million cap hit through 2031, while Marchenko is slated to join Toronto alongside captain Auston Matthews.
