Red Bull reveal ‘another edge’ but handicapped by ‘narrow window’

Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies stated that the team's Azerbaijan Grand Prix upgrade package provided another competitive edge, helping close the gap to rivals. The team earned its first double podium in two and a half years in Baku, with Max Verstappen finishing second behind race winner George Russell, and teammate Isack Hadjar taking third. Despite the progress, Red Bull remains without a race victory this season.

Mekies noted that steady development since the Australian Grand Prix helped reduce the deficit, with the Baku package shaving off critical tenths. However, he warned that the 2026 power unit operates within a narrow performance window, as relying solely on the 350kW MGU-K makes energy management and power deployment highly demanding across different tracks.
