Paulo Bernardo lifts lid on Celtic loan departure after chat with Martin O’Neill

Celtic midfielder Paulo Bernardo has opened up about his summer loan move to Polish club Gornik Zabrze, stating that he is enjoying life with regular first-team football. Bernardo explained that a lack of playing time and being deployed outside his preferred midfield role at Celtic were the primary reasons behind his departure on loan.

Bernardo originally joined Celtic from Benfica in the summer of 2023 under Brendan Rodgers, but saw his involvement drop to just seven starts in the 2025/26 season. Since moving to Gornik, he has already logged more starts than during his entire previous campaign, with the Polish side currently sitting top of their league.
