The Ottawa Senators announced on Tuesday that defenseman Thomas Chabot has been named the 11th captain in franchise history. The 29-year-old succeeds Brady Tkachuk, who relinquished the role after being traded to the Florida Panthers earlier this year. General manager Steve Staios and head coach Travis Green praised Chabot's decade of experience, leadership, and ability to guide the team through adversity as key factors in the decision.
Chabot, who is entering the seventh season of his eight-year, $8 million cap hit contract extension, has recorded 335 points in 569 regular-season games with Ottawa. He is scheduled to make his official debut as captain on Saturday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
