The St. Louis Blues remain interested in Alexander Nikishin, but now, their interest has direct implications on the Carolina Hurricanes' pursuit of Connor Hellebuyck.

The Carolina Hurricanes' pursuit of Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck via trade reportedly hinges on the St. Louis Blues and defenseman Alexander Nikishin. According to reporter Elliotte Friedman, a direct deal between Carolina and Winnipeg would likely have occurred already if Nikishin were willing to sign with the Jets. With Nikishin reportedly uninterested in Winnipeg and seeking a five-year contract worth $9 million annually, trade options have narrowed.
The Blues remain a primary suitor under GM Alexander Steen to acquire Nikishin, potentially through a multi-team trade. While other contenders like the New York Rangers and Nashville Predators have fallen out of contention, Nikishin has reportedly changed agents and received permission to negotiate contract terms with potential trade destinations.
