Warriors GM Sends Strong Message to Stephen Curry Before Season

Golden State Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. praised Stephen Curry as "incredibly generous" after the star guard signed a two-year, $116 million contract extension. Dunleavy revealed that the team had offered Curry a full two-year, $137 million maximum deal, but Curry accepted a discount to help the franchise maintain competitive roster flexibility.

The agreement saves the Warriors roughly $10 million on next summer's payroll, potentially opening more than $50 million in cap room for free agency. Dunleavy explained that team leadership walked Curry through their financial books and competitive plans to assure him of their future strategy before finalizing the deal.
