Jacob Markstrom recorded a 15-save shutout in his Florida Panthers return as Florida edged the Carolina Hurricanes 1-0 in overtime. Gus Forsling scored the game-winning goal with just over four seconds left in extra time to secure the season-opening victory on the road.
Markstrom repelled all seven shots faced during Carolina's six power-play opportunities, supported by key penalty killers including Aaron Ekblad and Sasha Barkov. With the result, Markstrom became the third goaltender in Panthers franchise history to record a shutout in a season opener.
