Tigers Hit With Lawsuit After A’s Player’s Brutal Comerica Park Collision

Athletics infielder and outfielder Zack Gelof has filed a lawsuit against the Detroit Tigers, Ilitch Holdings Inc., and the Detroit-Wayne County Stadium Authority. The complaint, filed on September 28 in Wayne County Circuit Court, alleges that an inadequately protected metal fence at Comerica Park caused Gelof to suffer a severe right knee laceration during a game on July 9, 2026.

The collision occurred when Gelof chased a foul ball hit by Zach McKinstry, sidelining him for approximately a month. Gelof's lawsuit alleges negligence, premises liability, and negligent design, seeking unspecified damages for medical expenses, pain and suffering, and lost wages. The Tigers declined to comment on the pending litigation.
