Arsenal learn Julian Alvarez saga is over as Barcelona issue massive update

Barcelona president Joan Laporta confirmed that the club's pursuit of Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez is over after clearing the air with Atletico CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin. The two Spanish clubs had engaged in a public feud during the summer transfer window over Barcelona's reported €100 million permanent bid for Alvarez, which Atletico firmly rejected. Laporta stated that the situation has been smoothed over and the pursuit is now a thing of the past.

Arsenal had also sought a permanent deal for Alvarez during the summer window, but the Argentine international had his heart set on moving to Barcelona instead. With Atletico refusing to sell to their domestic rivals, Alvarez remained in Madrid. Arsenal were also unsuccessful in their summer attempts to land Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior and Juventus attacker Kenan Yildiz.
