Trading Luis Castillo to Chicago remains a big win for the Mariners, but one of the three players they acquired in return has decided his future lies elsewhere.

Outfielder Nolan Jones has elected free agency, departing the Seattle Mariners after joining the organization in an August trade involving Luis Castillo. Jones, who previously finished fourth in National League Rookie of the Year voting with the Colorado Rockies in 2023, spent time across three organizations this season without reaching the majors.
Jones posted a .783 OPS at Triple-A Tacoma after being acquired alongside Seranthony Dominguez and Boston Smith from the Chicago White Sox. Writer Paul Taylor notes that while the Castillo trade remains a net positive for Seattle, Jones' departure represents unfulfilled potential following two consecutive seasons of decline.
