‘Unbelievable energy’ – Eckert insists changes primed star for ‘very good season’

Southampton head coach Tonda Eckert praised midfielder Flynn Downes, predicting a very good season for the 27-year-old following off-pitch lifestyle changes. Eckert highlighted Downes' high energy levels and noted he returned to pre-season training as the squad's fittest player.

Downes has started all eight Championship matches this season and captained Southampton on five occasions. He is expected to wear the captain's armband again when Saints face Portsmouth in the south coast derby on Sunday, October 11.
