The Treasury Committee has written to the chief executive of HM Revenue and Customs to ask about the tax implications of the Premier League's investigation into Manchester City.

The UK Parliament's Treasury Committee has contacted HM Revenue and Customs regarding potential tax implications arising from the Premier League's investigation into Manchester City. Following an independent commission ruling that found the club guilty of all charges relating to financial rule breaches over nine seasons, HMRC could review whether appropriate taxes and national insurance contributions were paid. Manchester City deny all wrongdoing and have confirmed plans to appeal the verdict.
In a letter to HMRC permanent secretary JP Marks, Treasury Committee chair Dame Meg Hillier asked for an unredacted version of the Premier League's report and a broader overview of tax compliance across football clubs. The inquiry follows longstanding allegations regarding undisclosed compensation arrangements, including a reported second contract for former manager Roberto Mancini, with HMRC given an October 15 deadline to respond.
