Charles Leclerc warned that Ferrari must address chassis and aerodynamic performance alongside its known power-unit deficit. While Ferrari has acknowledged that its engine trails Mercedes and Red Bull, Leclerc noted in Malaysia that rivals are introducing upgrades that make them much stronger through the corners. Consequently, he believes Ferrari cannot focus solely on engine development to close the gap.
Team principal Fred Vasseur confirmed Ferrari has halted new major developments for the SF-26 to prioritize the 2027 project. Although minor aerodynamic and active-aero updates are scheduled for Sepang, Leclerc stressed that comprehensive car improvements are vital to prevent rivals like McLaren, Red Bull, and Mercedes from pulling further ahead.
