MLB.com analyst Tim Stebbins suggested the Cleveland Guardians use right-handed pitcher Daniel Espino as an opener ahead of left-hander Joey Cantillo for Game 3 of the ALDS against the Chicago White Sox. Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt noted the club will monitor the first two games before finalizing a Game 3 starter.
Stebbins highlighted that the strategy counteracts Chicago's heavily left-handed lineup and produced strong regular-season results. Cantillo delivered 15 scoreless innings with 17 strikeouts across his final three appearances after Espino opened for him, presenting an alternative to traditional starter Tanner Bibee.
