The Nashville Predators opened their season with a 3-1 home defeat against the Minnesota Wild on Thursday. Nick Foligno and Blake Coleman built an early 2-0 lead for Minnesota in the first period. Roman Josi cut the deficit to 2-1 for Nashville during the second period, but Kirill Kaprizov scored in the third to secure the victory for the Wild.
Wild goaltender Jesper Wallstedt stopped 19 of 20 shots, while Nashville's Juuse Saros made 27 saves. Special teams proved decisive as the Predators went 0-for-4 on the power play. New acquisition Ross Colton registered six hits for Nashville, which next hosts the Dallas Stars on Saturday.
