Manchester City were found guilty of 114 of the 115 financial charges brought against them by the Premier League earlier this week

Manchester City are facing potential scrutiny from HMRC after being found guilty of 114 of 115 financial charges brought by the Premier League. According to reports, HMRC may investigate whether the club paid the correct amount of tax during a nine-year period spanning 2009 to 2018, following the independent commission's verdict.
MP Dame Meg Hillier has reportedly written to HMRC secretary JP Marks to inquire about taxation practices and whether HMRC obtained the Premier League's findings, setting an October 15 deadline for a reply. Meanwhile, Manchester City have maintained their innocence and lodged an appeal on October 1, 2026, stating the verdict contains clear material errors.
