The New York Rangers have named Dylan Garand as their starting goaltender for Friday night's game against the Detroit Red Wings. Head coach Mike Sullivan confirmed the lineup decision following the team's 5-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday, choosing to give regular starter Igor Shesterkin a rest after back-to-back starts.
Garand was recently recalled from waivers after backup goaltender Joonas Korpisalo was sidelined week-to-week with a lower-body injury. The 24-year-old netminder appeared in three NHL games for the Rangers last season, posting a 2-0-1 record with a 1.62 goals-against average and a .948 save percentage.
