Anthony Joshua will take on Tyson Fury in a blockbuster all-British clash in Cardiff later this year

Manchester United and the city of Manchester have missed out on up to £40 million after Cardiff's Principality Stadium was chosen over Old Trafford to host the Anthony Joshua versus Tyson Fury heavyweight bout. The British rivals will face off on December 11 in Cardiff, following Joshua's insistence on staging the fight in the United Kingdom rather than New York's Madison Square Garden.
Sports finance expert Professor Rob Wilson estimated that venues like Old Trafford lost out on direct revenue approaching £10 million from stadium hire, hospitality, food, and sponsorships. Furthermore, Wilson calculated that the event will generate £25 million to £30 million in wider economic activity, including hotels and tourism, that Manchester will no longer receive.
