NFL teams regularly ask the league for explanations when a controversial penalty or missed call changes the course of a game. Those conversations are meant to help coaches understand how a play was judged and how they should teach it…

The NFL issued a warning memo to all teams after Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay publicly revealed confidential feedback regarding an officiating error. McVay stated during a press conference that the league agreed a late defensive pass interference penalty against cornerback Josh Wallace should not have been called during the Rams' 30-26 loss to the Denver Broncos.
The NFL's memo reminded clubs that all officiating discussions must remain private, noting that the game operations manual allows discipline for breaches of confidentiality. The disputed penalty wiped out Wallace's potential game-sealing interception, allowing Broncos quarterback Bo Nix to score a go-ahead touchdown with 47 seconds remaining.
