The Washington Capitals took down the defending Stanley Cup Champs in Raleigh last night, with their new additions and young players playing key roles in the win.

The Washington Capitals opened their season with a 5-2 victory against the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh. Washington built a commanding 4-0 lead before Carolina got on the board. Alex Tuch led the offense with two goals, while Ryan Leonard, Cole Hutson, and Jakob Chychrun also scored to secure the road win against the defending Stanley Cup champions.
Goaltender Logan Thompson provided strong play in net, while Dylan Strome recorded two assists and Alex Ovechkin added one helper. Head coach Spencer Carbery saw his special teams capitalize with a power-play goal from Chychrun, as the Capitals prepared to quickly turn around and face the Tampa Bay Lightning the following night.
