West Ham United midfielder Edson Álvarez made his first appearance in over a month during a behind-closed-doors friendly against Wycombe Wanderers on Friday. After being excluded from ten consecutive matchday squads by manager Nuno Espírito Santo, Álvarez came on at halftime. Mexican media subsequently claimed this confirmed Nuno's intention to keep the midfielder for the rest of the season and reintegrate him into the squad.
However, Sport Witness writer Naveen Ullal argues that Mexican expectations for Álvarez's resurgence may be misplaced. The club had actively sought to offload him during the summer transfer window, and Ullal reports West Ham could still look to sell him in January, or the player could push for a winter move himself.
