Southampton have largely won their dispute against Atlético Mineiro at the Court of Arbitration for Sport regarding an unpaid transfer instalment for defender Lyanco. The Brazilian club has been ordered to pay Southampton €1.125m (£980k) plus 9% annual interest within 45 days. CAS rejected most of Atlético's appeal, which now leaves the Brazilian side facing a potential registration ban of up to three transfer windows if they fail to settle the debt.
The conflict stems from Lyanco's permanent €5.2m move in 2024, which was structured across five instalments. A separate dispute regarding a fourth missed instalment of €1.125m remains active, with FIFA previously ordering payment in April while that second case still awaits a final resolution.
