2026 Report Card: Marcus Semien, 2B

Writer Robert Colonna assigned New York Mets second baseman Marcus Semien a 'D' grade for his 2026 campaign following an offseason trade from the Texas Rangers for Brandon Nimmo. Semien struggled significantly throughout the season, batting .215/.280/.340 with 15 home runs and 49 RBIs across 139 games, producing a -0.5 fWAR and a 74 wRC+ while playing through a hip injury.

Colonna argued that the Mets should explore trading or even releasing Semien ahead of 2027 if his struggles persist into next year. Despite being owed $46 million, Semien is projected by the writer to potentially platoon at second base if he is not moved.
