New York Mets prospect Cole Mathis has joined the Surprise Saguaros in the Arizona Fall League to make up for missed regular-season at-bats. Mathis made an immediate impact on Opening Day at Scottsdale Stadium, delivering an RBI single and a walk during the Saguaros' 9-3 victory over Scottsdale.
Acquired from the Chicago Cubs on June 25 in exchange for David Peterson, the 23-year-old infielder is currently ranked as New York's No. 13 prospect. Mathis is using the Fall League stint to build momentum for 2027 following an injury-interrupted campaign across five minor-league teams.
