The Atlanta Falcons are saddened by the loss of one of their true all-time greats. Jeff Van Note, who spent his entire 18-year NFL career in Atlanta, died Friday at 80.
Former Atlanta Falcons center and franchise legend Jeff Van Note passed away on Friday at the age of 80. The team confirmed his death but did not disclose a cause. Van Note spent his entire 18-year NFL career in Atlanta after being drafted in the 11th round in 1969 out of Kentucky, becoming one of the most prominent figures in franchise history.
During his career, Van Note transitioned from linebacker to center, playing 246 games, earning six Pro Bowl selections, and later being inducted into the Falcons Ring of Honor in 2006. Following his 1986 retirement, he remained connected to the team and community as a sports broadcaster. Falcons owner Arthur Blank released a statement honoring Van Note's legacy, toughness, and enduring impact on the organization.
