The Chicago Bears have elevated defensive end Marcus Davenport to the active roster ahead of their upcoming game against the New York Jets. Chicago originally signed the former first-round pick on August 17 before cutting him and stashing him on the practice squad to build conditioning. Erik Lambert writes that Davenport's return provides vital depth to a pass-rushing unit featuring Montez Sweat, Austin Booker, and Dayo Odeyingbo.
Lambert suggests this opportunity represents Davenport's last chance to prolong his NFL career following recurring injury troubles that sidelined him for 37 games between 2023 and 2025. Familiar with defensive coordinator Dennis Allen from their time with the New Orleans Saints, Davenport is expected to serve as a rotational rusher, with Lambert noting that four to five sacks this season would be a significant success.
