Johnny Manziel and his short-lived NFL career remain one of football’s most infamous cautionary tales. The former Cleveland Browns quarterback arrived with enormous expectations after winning the Heisman Trophy at Texas A&M.
Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel revealed details about his wild game-day routine during an appearance on the Glory Daze podcast. Manziel stated that before noon kickoff games, he and former teammate Josh Gordon would sneak out of the team hotel at 5 a.m. to go to his apartment. Once there, the pair would play the video game FIFA and smoke marijuana for hours prior to heading to the stadium.
Manziel, who served primarily as the backup quarterback, noted that Gordon would sometimes play in the games while he remained on the bench. The revelation highlights the ongoing off-field controversies that derailed Manziel's career in Cleveland, which included an infamous December 2015 incident where he missed concussion treatment to party in Las Vegas in disguise, ultimately leading to his release in March 2016.
