Liverpool centre-back Giovanni Leoni is expected to return from a long-term injury by the end of October 2026, according to a report from The Athletic. The 19-year-old suffered an ACL tear on his competitive debut last season following his transfer from Parma in summer 2025.
Liverpool originally envisioned the Italian defender as a potential long-term successor to Virgil van Dijk. The club's staff has reportedly praised Leoni's mentality and work ethic during his rehabilitation, noting he used the absence to learn English and adapt to the club.
