Bud Cauley won his first PGA Tour title at the 2026 RBC Canadian Open, shooting a final-round 65 to win by two strokes. The victory marks a significant career comeback after a multi-year injury layoff and comes with a $1.764 million prize.
The American secured the long-awaited victory in his 239th career start on the tour, finishing ahead of runner-up Matt Fitzpatrick at TPC Toronto. Cauley’s win completes a remarkable return from a period where he did not play a professional event between September 2020 and January 2024 following a serious injury.
Once a decorated amateur at Alabama who played alongside Justin Thomas, Cauley’s professional career had struggled to gain traction before his long absence. He entered the final day in Caledon, Ontario just one shot off the lead but demonstrated clinical composure throughout Sunday to close out the tournament.
Before the final round, Cauley spoke about how his time away from the sport and changes in his personal life have altered his mindset. “I don’t really want to think about that now. I guess we’ll find out when that day happens. I will say, just since I was injured and playing golf now and having gotten married and starting a family, my life — I think my perspective has changed and my priorities I think are in order,” he stated.
He clarified that this new perspective does not diminish his competitive drive. “So it’s not the most important thing in the world to me, but it is very important. I work really hard at it, so that’s why I come out here and play is to try to win tournaments.”
The victory provides Cauley with significant tour security and the largest payday of his career, earning $1,764,000 from the $9.8 million total purse. Fitzpatrick collected $1,068,200 for his runner-up finish, with Viktor Hovland placing third for $676,200.
