Baltimore Orioles reliever Yennier Cano rebounded in 2026 after a difficult 2025 campaign, finishing the season with a 2.90 ERA across 68 appearances. Following early success that included a 1.06 ERA in his first 21 games, the right-hander re-established himself as an essential part of the bullpen. On July 31, the Orioles rewarded Cano by signing him to a contract extension covering his final two arbitration years with a club option for 2029.
Writer Stacey argues that Cano remains best suited as a setup man rather than a closer, noting struggles when pitching in the ninth inning. Cano benefited from a 62% ground ball rate and a career-best 6.4% walk rate in 2026. The writer recommends the Orioles utilize Cano in the seventh and eighth innings for 2027 alongside relievers Ryan Helsley and Félix Bautista.
