The International Cricket Council has shelved its proposed World Club Championship until at least 2031 due to opposition from India, Australia, and England. The concept aimed to gather top franchise teams from leagues like the IPL, BBL, SA20, PSL, and The Hundred. However, an ICC operations meeting in Dubai confirmed that no new tournaments will be added to the packed calendar.
The governing boards of the "Big Three" nations have already fixed their Future Tours Programmes for 2027 to 2031, leaving no room for extra multilateral events. Meanwhile, the ICC is considering expanding the World Test Championship from 10 to 12 teams to include Ireland, Afghanistan, and Zimbabwe.
