The New York Yankees may consider moving Luis Garcia Jr. back to the middle infield to replace pending free agent Jazz Chisholm Jr., according to Heavy's Billy Heyen. Manager Aaron Boone indicated before ALDS Game 2 that Garcia's infield past could be an option for the team in future years. Garcia currently plays first base for New York after being acquired from the Washington Nationals.
Heyen argues that shifting Garcia to second base or third base would create valuable roster flexibility for the Yankees. Moving Garcia would allow Ben Rice to take over first base, thereby opening the designated hitter spot for Giancarlo Stanton or another bat heading into the 2027 season.
