Vergil Ortiz Jr. could face Keith Thurman on the December 12 David Benavidez card, with Oscar De La Hoya working on a fight to keep him busy while a meeting
Promoter Oscar De La Hoya revealed that Golden Boy Promotions is working to match Vergil Ortiz Jr. against Keith Thurman on the December 12 David Benavidez card. De La Hoya confirmed that while negotiations are actively underway with Thurman, the agreement has not yet been finalized. Ortiz is seeking a fight to stay active after prospective bouts against other top contenders failed to materialize.
De La Hoya explained that a clash with Jaron Ennis remains out of reach because Ennis is pursuing a bout with Josh Kelly, while Sebastian Fundora also has other plans. Golden Boy intends to use the proposed matchup with Thurman to keep Ortiz active and help co-feature the Benavidez event.
