During a Monday night preseason exhibition between the Phoenix Suns and Detroit Pistons, an altercation occurred less than five minutes into the game. With the Suns leading 13-9 in the first quarter, Phoenix forward Dillon Brooks tangled in the paint with Detroit forward John Collins. After a series of bumps and Brooks swiping at Collins following a rebound, Collins responded by grabbing and pushing Brooks by the throat.
Teammates quickly intervened, with Brooks appearing pleased by the reaction while Collins seemed to realize he had been baited. Despite the early scuffle, the Pistons went on to win the game. Brooks scored 11 points in the contest after previously averaging a career-high 20.2 points in his first season with Phoenix.
